Introduction and local significance

La Feria Europea del Queso in Casar de Cáceres takes place this year during the official dates of 9-11 October 2026. This specialized event is held in the municipality of Casar de Cáceres, located in the province of Cáceres, within the autonomous community of Extremadura. The annual event brings together producers, professionals and visitors around local cheese culture and the commercial promotion of the sector.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebration maintains a close historical relationship with the traditional pastoral customs of the municipality. Among the recovered cultural activities, the Ruta Trashumante (transhumance route) stands out as an interesting hiking trail that runs along the route of the Cañada Real Soriana Occidental. During this traditional journey, attendees directly accompany a flock of sheep and can witness a full live milking demonstration.

Programme and main events

The official programme of La Feria Europea del Queso in Casar de Cáceres includes the following highlights organised for this edition:

  • 9 October at 11:30: Official opening of La Feria Europea del Queso in Casar de Cáceres.
  • 9 October at 20:00: Wine and cheese pairing tasting entitled "Quesos que Cuentan Historias", held at Restaurante Casa Claudio.
  • 11 October at 10:00: 20th Ruta Trashumante with a scheduled departure from Plaza de Sancho IV.

Traditional festival food

The undisputed protagonist of the festival is Torta del Casar, a cheese with a protected designation of origin very characteristic of Casar de Cáceres. This artisanal product is made strictly using sheep's milk and vegetable rennet, which defines its organoleptic properties and creamy texture. Likewise, during the celebration of the transhumance route, traditional migas extremeñas (a dish made from bread, paprika and other ingredients) are tasted.
