Feria de la Chacina en Benaoján

Introduction and local significance

The Feria de la Chacina in Benaoján takes place this year from 21 to 22 November 2026. This gastronomic event is celebrating its 22nd edition and has been declared a Fiesta de Singularidad Turística Provincial by the Diputación de Málaga. The celebration coincides with the time when the local workshops are in full swing preparing for the Christmas season.

Historical origins and tradition

Benaoján, located in the Serranía de Ronda, has based its economy for over a century on its sausage factories. The local charcuterie tradition is the central focus of this event, which brings the artisan culture of lomo, chorizo, and salchichón to the fairgrounds. The town's businesses showcase the results of generations dedicated to the meat industry in this area of the province of Málaga.

Programme and main events

The official programme includes popular tastings such as the giant torta de chicharrones (pork crackling cake) and the tosta de zurrapas (toast with meat spread). Attendees can also witness the ham cutting competition held on Sunday morning. The festive offerings of the Feria de la Chacina in Benaoján are completed with concerts organised at the Caseta Municipal.

Traditional festival food

The absolute stars are the pork products made in the municipality. At the various stands, visitors can purchase and taste lomo en manteca (pork loin in lard), chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage), salchichón, and jamón. Additionally, the culinary offerings are complemented by other artisan products from the area such as molletes (soft bread rolls), typical sweets, cheeses, honey, and preserves.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To reach Benaoján by car from San Pedro Alcántara, take the A-397 towards Ronda and then the MA-7401 to Benaoján. In previous editions, parking areas controlled by Protección Civil were set up, although on the busiest days, public transport or parking outside the centre is preferable. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance to attend all events and to check for any changes in the official programme before travelling.
