Introduction and local significance

La Feria de Cedrillas is held in the municipality of Cedrillas, in the province of Teruel. The official dates for this year's edition are from 30 September to 4 October 2026. The fair concentrates its activity at the exhibition grounds set up in the town and serves as a meeting point for professionals and the general public interested in livestock farming. The event features livestock auctions and various activities built around this agricultural and livestock tradition.

Historical origins and tradition

寿司 The fair originated in 1891 following an administrative dispute in Alcalá de la Selva, where a new fee was imposed on fairgoers. Joaquín Julián Catalán de Ocón then led a group of livestock farmers who decided to move the event to Cedrillas, after ruling out other possible locations such as Cella, Mora de Rubielos and Alfambra. For much of the 20th century, equine livestock held a central place, losing prominence from the 1960s onwards due to the widespread use of motor vehicles. However, since 2004, this type of livestock has regained importance within the programme, linked in this phase to the leisure sector.

The infrastructure needed for the event has evolved significantly over the decades. In 1991, an organising committee backed by the Town Council took over management and changed the location of the fairgrounds due to a lack of space. An unforeseen event in 1992, when the wind destroyed a circus tent used to house animals, prompted the construction of a permanent venue that was opened in 1995. From 1996, the fair took on a new dimension by incorporating national and regional sheep and cattle auctions. This evolution was reflected in the turnout, which grew from a thousand people recorded in 1991 to reach 20,000 by the late 1990s.

Programme and main events

The official programme spans several days with specific events that allow attendees to take part in the life of the municipality during the fair. The calendar of activities includes tasting sessions and popular meals, which are combined with the central livestock activity of the event. Since the official programme is detailed in the table above, the schedules will not be repeated in this section. It is recommended to check this list before travelling, as schedules and events may be subject to change by the organisers.

Traditional festival food

During La Feria de Cedrillas, traditional dishes are consumed that form part of the social gatherings in the festive calendar. These dishes are part of the offerings taking place at the venue or its surroundings:

  • Huevos fritos con jamón y queso (fried eggs with ham and cheese): tasting organised within the framework of the fair.
  • Caldereta con Ternasco de Aragón (stew with Aragon lamb): traditional dish that forms part of the official programme.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To organise your visit to La Feria de Cedrillas, it is advisable to follow logistical recommendations. It is recommended to book accommodation in advance for the specified dates. Staying in the municipality itself or in nearby towns makes it easy to follow the scheduled events without setbacks.

On the days with the highest turnout, it is preferable to opt for public transport or park your vehicle outside the centre to move around the town more comfortably. Before travelling, always check the official programme, as schedules and events may change according to the organisers.
