Introduction and local significance

The Las Hurdes Beekeeping Fair in Caminomorisco will be held officially from 6 to 8 November 2026. This event, which reaches its twelfth edition under the name APITHUR, brings together professionals from the sector, producers, and visitors in the Caceres town to highlight honey as a strategic resource for the region. The organisation is supported by entities such as ADIC-HURDES, the Junta de Extremadura, the Diputación de Cáceres, Alimentos de Extremadura, and Caja Almendralejo, aiming to consolidate the strong attendance figures after registering more than 15,000 people in 2025.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebration combines technical sessions on the beekeeping sector with displays of folklore and local customs. Local groups such as the Escuela Municipal El Paleo and the Escuela de Tamborileros de Mesegal participate in the agenda of events, accompanying the official opening ceremony. The fair is an initiative promoted by the Caminomorisco Town Council with the collaboration of associations such as APIHURDES, SIERRAMIEL, ASAJA Extremadura, the Asociación Cacereña de Apicultores, ATHUR, and the Mancomunidad de Municipios de Las Hurdes. This effort seeks to balance economic activity with the tourism promotion of honey as a representative element of the Hurdan tradition.

Programme and main events

The programme, as detailed in the list above, offers activities focused on professional dissemination, family leisure, and music. The official inauguration stands out on Friday 6 November, at 11.30, with the presence of representatives from the regional and local administration. Technical roundtables on the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the sanitary management of hives set the professional pace, featuring speakers such as beekeeper Paul Fert and specialist João Tomé. In the cultural sphere, the programme includes proposals such as children's workshops, planetarium sessions, solar observation, and live painting. Meanwhile, concerts in the Plaza de la Libertad, with groups like Delameseta and Folk on Crest, focus the weekend's musical offering. Attendees can also participate in the honey tasting and competition on Sunday 8 November. It is recommended to check the updated timetables before travelling, as they may be subject to change.

Traditional festival food

Honey is the fundamental raw material of the event and takes centre stage in specific culinary proposals during the weekend. Highlights include a showcooking session and tasting of dishes made with honey, scheduled for Saturday 7 November at 13.00. In addition, the programme includes the celebration of popular calbotadas (roasted chestnut gatherings) during the afternoons of Friday and Saturday, a local gastronomic custom very present during autumn dates.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The fairgrounds host most of the conferences, workshops, and exhibitions during the three days. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance, either in the municipality of Caminomorisco itself or in nearby towns, to make it easier to follow the evening events. On days with the highest turnout, it is preferable to use public transport or park the vehicle outside the town centre to avoid traffic jams and facilitate access to the activity area. Before starting your trip, it is recommended to check the available official information to organise your visit.
