Introduction and local significance

The Ruta de la Tapa en Pizarra is a gastronomic event that takes place in this municipality in the province of Málaga. For this edition, the confirmed official dates are from 16 to 18 October 2026. The event brings together various local dining establishments that create small culinary dishes to showcase the culinary offerings of the area.

It holds the distinction of Fiesta de Singularidad Turística Provincial (Provincial Singular Festival of Málaga), awarded by the Diputación de Málaga. Its significance in the regional calendar attracts visitors looking to taste traditional and innovative recipes in a participatory atmosphere focused on the hospitality of the municipality.

Historical origins and tradition

This culinary festival has been celebrated since 2007. With this history, the Ruta de la Tapa en Pizarra is the oldest tapas route in the province of Málaga, reaching its 18th edition in 2026 following its provincial recognition.

The traditional dynamic involves participants visiting bars and restaurants to stamp their purchases. This is done using the classic physical paper passport, called the «Tapasporte», or digitally through the FedelAPP application by scanning QR codes. With this registration, the public votes to choose the awarded establishments and enters prize draws. The competition awards distinctions for Best Tapas, Innovative Tapas, Children's Tapas, Cocktail, Popular Prize, and Best Service, with the winning hospitality professionals receiving a personalised artistic ceramic plate.

Programme and main events

The event's offerings are structured throughout the days along the traditional tapas route, the cocktail route, and the children's route, complemented by activities that enliven the local establishments. Prior to the start of the tastings, an institutional presentation is held at the Diputación de Málaga to detail the event. For details of each event, you can check the official programme list located further up on this page.

The events take place directly in the participating bars and restaurants, where there are itinerant performances and children's entertainment during the weekend. Additionally, the organisation provides a playroom service for families attending the gastronomic itinerary.

Traditional festival food

The central focus of the celebration revolves around three types of offerings prepared by the participating hospitality establishments:

  • Traditional and innovative tapas: small culinary creations specifically designed for the event, served at a price of 3 or 4 euros including a drink.
  • Children's tapas: options adapted for a younger audience, included within the specific route at the participating venues.
  • Cocktails: mixed drinks and beverages prepared at the venues participating in this category for a set price of 5 euros.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The event takes place across various hospitality establishments scattered throughout the municipality of Pizarra. To travel to the town, the campaign is promoted and information is available on the screens of the RENFE Cercanías service. On days of higher attendance, it is preferable to use public transport or park outside the urban centre to walk between the bars.

To plan your stay, it is advisable to book accommodation in advance for the festival dates. Staying in the municipality itself or in nearby towns makes it easier to follow the activities and routes during the day and night. Before heading to the venues, remember to check for any last-minute changes in the service hours of each establishment.
