Introduction and local significance
The Recreation of the Battle of Almansa in Almansa is officially celebrated from 23 to 25 April 2027. This cultural and historical event commemorates the military events that shaped the town in the 18th century. The scheduled events attract visitors interested in closely learning about the details of this military confrontation through specialised reenactors who come for the occasion. This commemoration has been officially declared of Regional Tourist Interest, highlighting its significance within the festive and cultural calendar of the municipality and the province of Albacete. This year's edition marks the 320th anniversary of the historical events that are remembered every April.
Historical origins and tradition
The International Historical Recreation of the Battle of Almansa recalls the original battle fought on 25 April 1707. This confrontation was one of the most decisive battles of the War of Spanish Succession. The war formally began after the death of King Carlos II, who left no heirs, creating a succession crisis that led to a dispute for the crown between the Duke of Anjou, who would become Felipe V of Spain, and his opponent Archduke Carlos of Austria. The current recreation aims to transport the audience back to that era through a carefully staged performance and the participation of reenactors who bring to life the events of the 18th century.
Programme and main events
The official events of the commemoration take place consecutively over the three days set in the official calendar for this 2027 edition. The planned programme details the following main milestones organised for attendees:
- 23 April 2027: Official start of the Historical Recreation and acts commemorating the 320th anniversary of the Battle of Almansa.
- 24 April 2027: Development of the main acts of the Historical Recreation in the designated venues.
- 25 April 2027: Closing day and conclusion of the acts of the Historical Recreation.
Traditional festival food
The local culinary offer includes traditional recipes deeply rooted in the municipality and throughout the province of Albacete. Among the most notable dishes is the gazpacho de conejo y perdiz, a typical dish from Almansa made specifically with rabbit and partridge meat. Also part of the gastronomic tradition of the area are the ajo mataero and the hearty atascaburras, traditional dishes from the locality with strong local ties. As a sweet finale to complete the festive days, the pastries known as Delicias de Almansa stand out, which are the preferred sweets of local pastry making.
Visitor guide and where to stay
The central acts of the Recreation of the Battle of Almansa take place at the main venue known as Batallódromo. This space is specifically located between Calle Director de fotografía Néstor Almendros, Paseo de las Huertas, and Avenida de la Circunvalación. To facilitate attendance and movement, it is advisable to consider a series of basic logistical guidelines provided by the organisation. On days with high public attendance, it is preferable to use public transport or park outside the urban centre of the municipality. Additionally, before travelling to the town, it is recommended to consult the official programme published by the town hall, as times and events may vary. Regarding accommodation, it is advisable to book lodging well in advance for the specified dates of the festival. Staying in the municipality of Almansa or nearby towns significantly facilitates attending all scheduled events, including those that take place during the commemorative days.
