Introduction and local significance
The Medieval Market and the Legend of the Rooster (Mercado Medieval y la Leyenda del Gallo) in Morón de la Frontera (Seville) has confirmed its dates from 6 to 8 November 2026. This celebration organises a historical reenactment of the local legend alongside a commercial market set up in the town centre. Visiting allows you to discover the local heritage and historical narrative through the staging of this traditional tale.
Historical origins and tradition
The event is centred around the "Gallo de Morón" (Rooster of Morón), a figure representative of the municipality's identity. Each year, the legend is reenacted to preserve the memory of the event that gave rise to the popular expression linked to this figure. The medieval market setting serves as the context for these theatrical performances.
Programme and main events
The programme for this edition includes the themed market, the artisan market and the reenactment of the Legend of the Rooster. The dramatic acts take place at the Iglesia de San Miguel (Church of San Miguel), while commercial activity is distributed throughout various streets in the city centre.
It is necessary to consult the official programme to find out the specific times for each activity, including market opening hours and theatre sessions. Checking this is important, as the timings and the schedule of events may undergo logistical changes during the days of the festival.
Traditional festival food
Visitors will find various food options at the stalls of the themed market set up on the streets of the municipality. Additionally, Morón de la Frontera has several hospitality establishments distributed throughout its city centre. These venues offer different dining alternatives where you can have lunch and dinner during the days the festival takes place.
Visitor guide and where to stay
The celebration takes place in the historic centre, occupying streets such as San Miguel, Mina, Pedro Santo and Ánimas. From Thursday, 5 November, traffic restrictions will be in place, limiting traffic and access to garages on streets such as Cardenal Spínola, Hermanos Álvarez Quintero and Cuesta Portillo.
The local police have set up alternative routes to facilitate mobility, such as access to the Ánimas area via Calle Vicario and the exit via Plaza de la Inmaculada. There are also specific routes for residents, such as access to the Ramón Auñón garages from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento or the route for the Pósito garages via streets Escolástica, Campana and Osuna.
Given these restrictions, drivers are advised to pay attention to temporary signage and park outside the central core to avoid complications. To make it easier to follow the events, it is suggested to book accommodation in advance, either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns, which helps to avoid unnecessary travel through areas restricted to traffic.
