Introduction and local significance
The Mercado Medieval de Soria transforms the historic centre of the Soria capital into a bustling medieval enclave every year. This event, which falls into the category of medieval markets in the province of Soria (Castilla y León), has official dates confirmed for 9-12 October 2026. During these days, the city revives its historic past through craft stalls, themed parades, and family entertainment options designed for all visitors who travel to the town during the customary month of celebration.
Historical origins and tradition
The celebration of this event is part of the recovery of Castilian mercantile traditions typical of the medieval era. The municipality's public spaces are decorated to host an event deeply rooted in the region's autumn calendar. Attendees will find recreations of ancient trades, jesters, and fantastic characters that evoke the collective imagination of the Middle Ages in the streets of Soria.
Programme and main events
The activities of the Mercado Medieval de Soria are structured in a comprehensive daily programme that begins on Thursday, 9 October at 11:00 with the official inauguration and the opening of the children's corner. At 11:30, the comedy juggling parade A todo trapo: El comediante arrives, followed at 12:00 by El caballero de la luna negra and the Barkel, el árbol cuentacuentos sessions. At 12:30, the first walk of the little dragon Eldryn takes place, before giving way to El barrendero de Soria at 13:00 and La doncella de la torre at 13:30.
The first day's agenda continues in the afternoon with the A todo trapo parades, including Llegado de Oriente at 17:00 and El ciego medieval at 19:00. Between these parades, attendees can enjoy El secreto del viejo castillo at 17:30 and La espada del rey olvidado at 19:30. The final hours of the day feature El juglar y la corona at 20:30 and the pyrotechnic show Fuego de Leyenda at 22:00, before the market closes at 23:00. On Friday, 10 October, activity resumes at 11:00 with the opening and the children's corner, followed at 11:30 by the El pregonero de Soria parade, with the storytelling and parade performances repeating throughout the morning and afternoon.
Traditional festival food
The stalls installed during these days in the market area incorporate a varied offer of artisan food products. The local culinary tradition is characterised by traditional preparations and artisan products adapted to the autumn climate of the Castilian plateau. Visitors have the opportunity to purchase local products and specialties typical of the province's gastronomy at the different exhibitors set up along the route.
Visitor guide and where to stay
The market will extend through some of the main spaces of the capital's centre, placing stalls and activities in Plaza Mariano Granados, Calle Marqués de Vadillo, Calle El Collado, Plaza Mayor, and Plaza de las Mujeres. If you are travelling from Madrid to Soria by car, the usual route is to take the A-2 towards Zaragoza until the Medinaceli area and link up from there with the A-15 towards Soria. Likewise, there are direct bus services operated from the Madrid Avenida de América transport hub to the Soria bus station, located at Avenida de Valladolid, 40. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance in the city centre's hotels to be able to walk around the entire site with ease.
