Introduction and local significance
La Embutada in Tarragona takes place from 7 to 8 November 2026 in the Plaza del Rei. This event reaches its tenth edition with the participation of twenty-six wineries and is organised by the Santa Teca cultural association with the collaboration of the City Council. The celebration champions the city's winemaking past and recovers the memory of a tradition linked to the vineyards and the export of wine in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Historical origins and tradition
The initiative takes its name from the tin funnel, known as embutada, which was traditionally used in Tarragona to drink and share the season's first wine. The documentary produced by Santa Teca and Cordegat reviews the original customs of the celebration through oral memory. These elements include iron hooks where pine branches were hung, casteller performances outside the wineries, rounds of wine drunk in a single gulp, and benches placed in the street.
Programme and main events
Torch-lit new wine tastings and cultural proposals are distributed between the Plaza del Rei and other urban spaces in the official programme. Preliminary events include the screening of documentaries and the literary recital Ara beu i enamora't on Thursday 5 November, in addition to guided routes through the old celleres (wineries). During the central weekend of 7 and 8 November, concerts take place along with a trades exhibition featuring the crafting of tin funnels by Xavier Roura, a pottery workshop and the traditional Rifa de la Embutada (Embutada Raffle), as detailed in the official programme.
Traditional festival food
The festival's gastronomic offering revolves around the tasting of new wines from the twenty-six wineries taking part in the exhibition. The event's culinary proposal features participation from specialised local establishments. Notable among them are the dishes and preparations offered by:
- El Llagut
- El Cortijo
- Forn Jordi Andreu
- Rafa Gelatti
- Olo Cafè
