Introduction and local significance

The Guerras Cántabras en Los Corrales de Buelna is a historical re-enactment celebrated in this municipality of Cantabria. This festival has been recognised as a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest since 2019, having previously been declared of National Tourist Interest in 2008. The official dates announced for this edition are 17 October 2026.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebration commemorates the historical warfare between Roman troops and the Cantabrian tribes in antiquity. Its first edition was held in 2001. More than 1,800 people take part in the festivities, divided into thirteen Cantabrian tribes and thirteen Roman legions. The programme includes battle re-enactments in the Circo Máximo, encampments representing both sides, a Cantabrian wedding, and a final parade through the municipality.
