Introduction and local significance

The Patron Saint Festivities in honour of San Roque and San Agustín in Vilaflor de Chasna are officially scheduled for 25 July 2026. The main events take place primarily in the Plaza de San Pedro Apóstol. This celebration stands out for keeping the cultural heritage of this Tenerife municipality alive, attracting visitors interested in Canarian tradition.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebrations gained special prominence from 1980 onwards with the beatification of Hermano Pedro de San José de Bethencourt, a native of Vilaflor and founder of the Betlemite Order, further consolidating their roots after his canonisation on 30 July 2002 by John Paul II. The first Saturday of the patron saint festivities kicks off with the grand Baile de Magos (traditional dance), where the locals of Vilaflor wear traditional attire. Sunday plays host to the Gran Romería (pilgrimage) through the streets of the municipality featuring rondallas (folk musical groups), decorated floats and families gathered at the Ermita de San Roque. The local festive heritage also includes the Corpus Christi carpets made of coloured sands and the flower-adorned Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses).

Programme and main events

The official programme for this edition includes a musical performance by La Parranda Chasnera. To check the rest of the events and final timetables, it is advisable to review the updated schedule before heading to the municipality.

Traditional festival food

During the celebration, our harvest wines stand out—local wines produced in the municipality itself that are especially tasted on the decorated floats during the course of the pilgrimage. The island's gastronomy is completed by the traditional dishes that the residents prepare for the Baile de Magos and share around the hermitage.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The events are concentrated in the Plaza de San Pedro Apóstol and its surroundings. For the days with the highest turnout, the organisers advise prioritising public transport or leaving vehicles in the designated areas outside the town centre. It is recommended to book accommodation in advance, either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns, to facilitate access to the evening activities.
