Introduction and local significance

The Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora de Cepones and San Roque in La Losa are officially held from 3 to 8 September 2026. This municipality in Segovia, Castile and León, hosts one of the most eagerly awaited dates on the local calendar, featuring religious ceremonies and popular events. Devotion to the patron saints brings locals and visitors together around the San Juan Evangelista Church and Plaza de Los Pobos.

Historical origins and tradition

The liturgical events leading up to the main days begin with the Triduum to the Virgen de Cepones, scheduled for Sunday 30 August at 12:00, continuing on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September at 19:30 at the Parish Church. The religious tradition is complemented by popular marches well-established in the municipality, such as the 24th March to the Ermita de San Pedro, which departs from Plaza de Los Pobos on 30 August and includes the traditional handkerchief game in groups and a watermelon tasting session. These local customs strengthen community spirit before the major celebrations officially begin.

Programme and main events

During the central days of the Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Nuestra Señora de Cepones and San Roque in La Losa, the official programme brings together dynamic events organised in venues such as Plaza de Los Pobos and the Bullring. Highlights include the opening of the peñas (social clubs) accompanied by the El Boquerón brass band, the official opening speech given by the Sierra de la Mujer Muerta Mountaineering Club to mark its tenth anniversary, and the presentation of the 2026 quintos (young people turning 18) alongside the 2017 children's quintos. The festive calendar also features unique events such as the procession down to the church, giants and big-heads parades led by the Tiroteiro group, children's running of the bulls, the soapbox derby down Cuesta de la Calle Real, and the traditional vaquillas de la luna (night-time heifer running). The days are rounded off with open-air dances by orchestras such as Grupo Pikante, musical tributes like Estoparte and performances by local DJs, while the complete timetable for each activity can be found in the official programme available on this page.

Traditional festival food

The culinary offering of the festivities includes popular dishes eagerly awaited by attendees in the municipality's squares.

  • Chorizo a la sidra (cider-infused chorizo): Tapas tasted during the opening of the peñas in Plaza de Los Pobos.
  • Macarronada (large communal pasta dish): Popular meal organised during the first days of the celebration.
  • Sardinada (sardine feast): Traditional distribution of sardines accompanied by dulzaina (traditional pipe) and drum music in Plaza de Los Huertos.
  • Paella mixta y vegana (mixed and vegan paella): Popular meal including bread and dessert for all diners.
  • Caldereta (traditional meat stew): Traditional dish served after the porrón (traditional drinking pitcher) contest, also served with bread and dessert.

Visitor guide and where to stay

Tickets for the paella and the caldereta can be purchased in advance until Wednesday 2 September for 6 euros, while from Thursday 3 September the price will be 7 euros per portion. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns to easily enjoy the night-time activities. On days with the highest attendance, it is best to park outside the town centre, and maximum punctuality is requested for all scheduled events, as well as respect for the surroundings and community coexistence.
