Introduction and local significance

The Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Ntra. Sra. del Remolino in El Molar are celebrated this year from 13 to 17 May 2026. This event brings together locals and visitors for religious, cultural and recreational events organised by the local council in the Madrid municipality. The programme stands out for its variety of festive events in landmark locations such as Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Pedro Gabriel and the bullring. The Fairgrounds, located next to the bullring, also host a large part of the nightlife activity during these days.

Historical origins and tradition

Local devotion is linked to the Marian invocation according to popular verses that recall how the Virgin wanted to be from El Molar and appeared to some shepherds. These identity elements form part of the intangible heritage of the town and define the religious fervour of the Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Ntra. Sra. del Remolino in El Molar. Current celebrations keep this heritage alive through religious services organised in the Parish Church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora, including the novena and solemn Eucharists. The active participation of local peñas (social clubs) adds the dynamic and characteristic touch of contemporary festive tradition.

Programme and main events

The official programme includes highlights such as the opening speech and initial fireworks, solemn masses, the procession of the statue and bullfighting events with running of the bulls and release of livestock. Mornings and afternoons are complemented by musical reveilles by different musical formations, brass band parades and evening performances with orchestras and DJs in Plaza Mayor. Attendees can also enjoy unique proposals such as rural Olympics, children's activities, dance exhibitions and rejones (horseback bullfighting) and recortes (leap bullfighting) events. Traditional festival food

During the main days, traditional preparations deeply rooted in the local popular cuisine can be tasted:

Limonada: A typical refreshing drink prepared for the occasion that is distributed and tasted during the various outdoor festive events.
Plato típico: A traditional local recipe that is tasted together with the limonada in the peña marquee located in Plaza de Pedro Gabriel.
Caldereta: A hearty meat dish prepared for the Monday after the main festivities, which is publicly tasted in Plaza Mayor.

Visitor guide and where to stay

Access to the municipality features modifications to bus lines, whose stops are moved to Avenida de Madrid next to Calle Arcas, near the Isla de Kos residence, and to Avenida de España from Wednesday 13 to Monday 18 May. For those wishing to park in a private vehicle, public parking is available on Calle Jacoba Díez, Calle Tejera Vieja and Calle Santa Águeda, taking into account traffic restrictions in the historic centre. Traffic closures have been established in Plaza de Pedro Gabriel, Plaza Mayor and Avenida de España at night, in addition to the ban on accessing Plaza Mayor with glass containers or metal elements for security reasons. For greater peace of mind for attendees, two visible and signposted meeting points are set up at the Town Hall Stairs and at the Fairgrounds. It is recommended to book accommodation in advance in the municipality itself or in nearby towns to follow the festive events in total comfort.
