Introduction and local significance
The Fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Carmen in Alguazas are officially held from 10 to 19 July 2026. This patronal celebration has the institutional backing of the town council and brings residents together around a confirmed calendar of events. The summer programme brings the municipality to life during the ten festive days set for this period.
Historical origins and tradition
The procession features the participation of the Majas de las Fiestas, the Comisión de Fiestas del Barrio del Carmen and the Corporación Municipal. The image of the neighbourhood's patron saint makes its way through the streets surrounded by local residents, who throw confetti and shout cheers of ¡guapa, guapa y guapa! as the Virgin passes by. The religious route culminates with the return of the carving to the Ermita del Barrio del Carmen to the rhythm played by the Agrupación Musical Virgen del Carmen de Alguazas.
Programme and main events
The official programme for this edition includes varied musical performances, activities aimed at younger children and a well-attended foam party. Particularly noteworthy events include the traditional charamita (festive parade with giant figures), the colourful float parade and the concert starring Doctor Bellido alongside DJs Pedraza and Josema García. The days are rounded off with the solemn mass and procession in honour of the Virgen del Carmen at the Ermita del Barrio del Carmen, as well as a traditional fireworks display.
Traditional festival food
The official reference documents for this edition do not specify a traditional recipe book or specific typical dishes directly linked to the festival. Visitors coming to the municipality can make use of the local hospitality offerings for food and drink during the celebration days.
Visitor guide and where to stay
The main events of the celebration are concentrated in the Barrio del Carmen area. Given the expected travel, general recommendations advise using public transport or parking vehicles outside the town centre on days with the highest turnout. It is advisable to check the official programme in advance for any possible changes and to book accommodation ahead of time in the municipality itself or in nearby towns to make it easier to access the night-time events of the Fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Carmen in Alguazas.
