Introduction and local significance
Las Fiestas del Cristo de Tacoronte are celebrated in the Tenerife municipality from 13 to 28 September 2026. This patronal festival is dedicated to the Santísimo Cristo de los Dolores and constitutes the city's main festival. The scheduled events attract locals and visitors interested in taking part in the most deeply rooted traditions of this town in Tenerife.
Historical origins and tradition
Las Fiestas del Cristo de Tacoronte possess remarkable heritage value linked to the municipality's religious history. The venerated image of the Cristo tacorontero is an outstanding work attributed to the Portuguese sculptor Manuel Pereira. In the architectural plan of the temple, the old galleries of the main altar were built in 1662. These original structures were eventually replaced in 1888 by the current high altarpiece that presides over the main sanctuary today.
