Introduction and local significance

The Fiestas de Sant Roc del Raval in Castellón are celebrated from 23 to 26 October 2026 in honour of Sant Roc del Raval. Organised by the Associació Cultural de Festes de Sant Roc del Raval, these celebrations bring together residents, cultural organisations and festive groups from the Castellón neighbourhood. The events for this edition feature the participation of the 'clavarios' (festival stewards) Rosa Cueva, Francisco Peris, and the incoming 'clavario' Joan Rus. The programme combines popular culture, devotion and live music in locations such as Carrer Sant Roc and the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

Historical origins and tradition

One of the hallmarks of the festival is the preparation of the traditional rotllets i primes (aniseed rolls and flatbreads), made in the oven of Joan Miravete Sebastià with the collaboration of the neighbours. These sweets are distributed during key moments such as the traditional tirà de rotllos (throwing of the rolls) on Sunday and the popular 'porrat' (sweet festival) following the procession. The religious and festive rituals involve the participation of figures such as the 'clavarios' and various local groups.

Programme and main events

Although the official programme is detailed in the section above, it is worth highlighting the most iconic moments that shape the festival days. The official start includes the firing of rockets on Carrer Sant Roc and a performance by the Orquesta Gravity at midnight. Saturday stands out for the popular parade featuring entities from Castellón's cultural fabric, while Sunday focuses on religious acts with the procession accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Castellón and the highly anticipated tirà de rotllos.

Traditional festival food

The traditional gastronomy of these festivities revolves around artisan pastries made in local bakeries. The absolute protagonists are the rotllets and the primes, typical sweets that are baked with the participation of neighbours and distributed during the main events. In addition, attendees enjoy the traditional sopar de pa i porta (a local 'bring your own food' dinner) organised on Calle Gibraltar on Friday and Saturday nights.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To follow the night-time events and avoid congestion on the busiest days, it is preferable to use public transport or park outside the neighbourhood centre. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance, whether in the town of Castellón itself or in nearby towns, which makes travel easier. It is recommended to check official channels before attending, as times and events may be subject to last-minute changes.
