Introduction and local significance

The Fiestas de San Lucas in Villanueva del Pardillo are the most representative patronal festival of this municipality in Madrid, dedicated exclusively to its patron, San Lucas Evangelista. For this edition, the festive calendar officially runs from 14 to 18 October 2026, extending celebrations that integrate both religious devotion and large musical and bullfighting events.

The prominence of these festivities is articulated through the coordinated work of local groups — such as Los Charros, Ley Seka, or BBK — along with the Parish of San Lucas Evangelista, the Brotherhood of San Lucas, and the San Lucas Cultural Bullfighting Association. The days are characterised by an active street life that includes cañeo events with flamenco music at midday, popular open-air dances, fireworks displays, and collective gastronomic gatherings.

The involvement of the locals shapes each day, bringing together different generations around the urban centre and its open spaces. The deployment of stages and the range of freely accessible activities consolidate these dates as a key moment in the annual calendar of the town.

Historical origins and tradition

The devotion to San Lucas in the municipality features practices with a marked visual and ceremonial identity. During the eve of 17 October, the imposition of medals to the new brothers of the brotherhood takes place, along with a floral offering accompanied by dances and the so-called Procession of Light, which transports the patron's statue from the Parish Church to the Old Temple. In this parade, traditional attire plays a leading role: most attendees wear the typical red costume and the classic Spanish cape.

On 18 October, the central feast day of the patron, a Solemn Mass in honour of San Lucas is held at 12:00, where women wear black Spanish mantillas and combs accompanied by red gladioli. After the service, the statue is taken out in its traditional procession through the streets of the urban centre, culminating formally with the sound of the Mascletá Pardillana. Since 2010, the Villanueva del Pardillo Folklore Festival has also been organised in coordination with the parish.

The bullfighting aspect has undergone a process of progressive historical recovery. Traditional bull runs were reinstated in 2019, expanding their route through the historic centre and adding a night-time format in 2022. Additionally, in 2024, the release of calves was resumed after more than three decades of absence, joining the pre-festival celebrations that include the Gran Prix Pardillano and equestrian shows.

Programme and main events

The festive agenda of the Fiestas de San Lucas in Villanueva del Pardillo includes preliminary activities that kick off with sporting events such as the XXVI Futsal Marathon or the Popular Race in favour of the Afaprodis Association. The formal start is set for 14 October with the reading of the official festival proclamation, an event that paves the way for the days of greatest intensity in the municipality.

Among the most attended moments is the performance of the Orquesta Panorama in the Explanada de Camino Real, as well as the block of pop-rock concerts in the Covered Area of Colegio San Lucas featuring historic bands like Nacha Pop and Tam Tam Go!. The night sessions with DJ Nano, the Mashups Tribe, and the macrofestival Pardifest complement the night programme. The closing day on 18 October groups together the most solemn community events with the solemn mass, the processional parade, and the fireworks finale of the Mascletá Pardillana.

The detailed programme with all schedules, dates, and complete locations can be consulted in the official programme list located at the beginning of this webpage.

Traditional festival food

The table and community gatherings form a significant part of the customs of San Lucas, supported by traditional stews of livestock origin and charitable preparations:

  • Caldereta pardillana: A traditional shepherd's stew made with beef, cooked in large pots and offered as a free tasting to the public after the reading of the inaugural proclamation.
  • Caldereta: A traditional dish of the festival served during communal and popular meals at various times throughout the calendar.
  • Asado de cordero al carbón: A traditionally roasted meat preparation for charitable purposes, with proceeds going to the Vuela Association.
  • Limonada: A traditional refreshing drink distributed by the Brotherhood of San Lucas as a courtesy on 18 October from 14:00.
  • Gran paella: A popular dish organised on the main day of 18 October to raise charitable funds for the New Temple.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The central hub of the festivities and performances is distributed among the Plaza Mayor, the Covered Area of Colegio San Lucas, the Parque Víctimas del Terrorismo, and the area set up in the Explanada de Camino Real at the corner of Avenida Juan Carlos I. For the most massive musical events, such as the performance of the Orquesta Panorama in this last location, a space adapted to evacuation regulations is prepared, with a capacity expected to accommodate 20,000 to 25,000 attendees. All performances during the festivities are free to enter until the venue's capacity is reached.

The overall security of the event is managed by a coordinated team of around 100 personnel from the Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, and private security staff, with special reinforcement in areas of higher crowd density and peak days. Due to the influx of the public, it is advisable to check the official programme in advance for possible schedule or organisational adjustments, use public transport for travel, or park private vehicles outside the central areas.

To plan your stay, it is advisable to book accommodation well in advance of the San Lucas dates. Staying in the municipality of Villanueva del Pardillo or in nearby towns is the most practical option for witnessing daytime religious events and returning after the evening dances and musical sessions.
