Introduction and local significance

Las Fiestas de San Gabriel in Ingenio take place this year from 22 September to 1 October 2026. They are held in the neighbourhood of La Jurada and are dedicated to San Gabriel Arcángel, making them a key patronal festival in this municipality in Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. Local residents organise themselves every year to host these festive days, which combine religious services, cultural events and popular gatherings in the neighbourhood streets.

Historical origins and tradition

This festival revolves around religious services and the community's most deeply rooted customs. The central religious and traditional event is the solemn Holy Mass followed by the procession of San Gabriel Arcángel, a devotional route through the neighbourhood streets accompanied by the AF San Gabriel. This musical group provides the traditional accompaniment as the saint passes along the various sections of the processional route set for the final day of the celebrations.

Programme and main events

The festive calendar unfolds over several days with events designed for community participation. The official start takes place on 22 September 2026 with the opening proclamation delivered by José Perdomo Negrín and Manuel González Goez, followed by a Poetic and Musical Night in the neighbourhood of La Jurada. Subsequent days include children's crafts, popular afternoon snacks, a Parrandera Night, a family afternoon with charity bingo and various musical nights. The final stretch of the programme features leisure areas such as Ludopark, a performance by Pepón the clown, a foam party and the traditional verbena del solajero (daytime open-air dance).

Traditional festival food

Regarding gatherings centred around food, the festive days include various popular events organised in the neighbourhood of La Jurada. These include activities aimed at children, such as children's afternoon snacks, as well as gatherings open to all attendees with a popular afternoon snack. These spaces encourage socialising among residents and visitors throughout the official festive programme.

Visitor guide and where to stay

Events are concentrated in the neighbourhood of La Jurada, so it is advisable to plan your trip in advance. It is recommended to book accommodation ahead of time for the festival dates, either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns, so you can easily attend the evening events. On days with the highest turnout, it is best to use public transport or leave your vehicle parked outside the main centre to avoid congestion on access roads. It is also advisable to check official channels before travelling to verify any last-minute changes to event schedules.
