Introduction and local significance

Feria de Meco are held in this municipality in the Community of Madrid in honour of the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro. The official dates for this edition run from 9 to 13 September 2026. During these days, the town in Madrid is packed with numerous religious, musical and bull-running events organised by the local council and peñas (local social clubs). The high level of involvement from residents drives these patron saint festivities, turning public spaces into a hive of activity from the very first day until the closing pyrotechnic display in the Barrio Alto esplanade.

Historical origins and tradition

This festival revolves around devotion to the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro, the central figure of the religious services scheduled by the local council and brotherhoods. Popular traditions are expressed through the active participation of the municipality's peñas and various associations, which organise their own activities from the start of the fiestas. Religious events, solemn processions and street celebrations maintain the historical essence of this gathering in Meco. The figure of the Hermano Mayor (Head Brother), a role held in this edition by Loreto Pliego de Lucas, coordinates liturgical aspects alongside church authorities, ensuring respect for inherited rituals.

Programme and main events

Given that the detailed official programme is already shown in the information box above, here we highlight that the events include the float and troupe parade by the peñas, the opening speech accompanied by a chupinazo (firecracker) and fireworks display in the Plaza de la Villa, and the numerous heifer releases alongside the encierros (bull runs) in the bullring. The festive calendar also features unique events such as the Soapbox derby down Calle Estación, Humor Amarillo (Yellow Humour) trials, the concert by the group Nacha Pop in the Plaza de la Villa and the end-of-fiesta fireworks display. Musical performances by Orquesta Mónaco and Orquesta Nebraska complete the evening line-up. To check the exact location and time of each event, consult the official programme list available on this same page.

Traditional festival food

During the Fiestas de Meco, several popular culinary gatherings organised by the peñas stand out across different parts of the municipality. Attendees can enjoy the following specialities during the festive days:

  • Paella: Popular tasting accompanied by a brass band, held in the El Verdoso area.
  • Sangría: Distributed at various points in the programme, including the sangriada (sangría gathering) with a brass band by Peña Los Desahuciados in the Plaza de la Constitución and the flamenco vermouth by Peña Asalta el Toro.
  • Migas castellanas (traditional breadcrumb dish with pork and garlic): Prepared and distributed by Peña La Parra on Calle Serení during the early hours of the morning.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To make getting around easier during the children's programme, a special train operates with designated stops in the Plaza de la Constitución and the Parque de la Dehesa car park. For strict security reasons, tickets for all heifer events and the night bull run must be purchased in advance before the specified dates. It is advisable to book accommodation well in advance in the municipality itself or in nearby towns so you can comfortably follow the evening events. On the days with the highest visitor numbers, it is best to use public transport or park outside the town centre, as well as checking the official programme beforehand for any changes to times or locations.
