Introduction and local significance

Las Fiestas de la Juventud in Peralta are patron saint festivities that mark the festive calendar of this town in the Chartered Community of Navarre. For the 2026 edition, the festivities will take place from 19 to 24 June. This event stands out as a meeting point where deeply rooted local traditions are integrated with leisure proposals organised by the quintas (groups of young people turning 18), an aspect that brings a particular dynamism to the social life of the municipality during these days.

Historical origins and tradition

Las Fiestas de la Juventud in Peralta preserve rites that structure the rhythm of the local festive calendar and have become part of its identity. One of the most symbolic moments takes place on St John's Day, 24 June, with the traditional closing of the Tremoya sluice gate at dawn. This event, which culminates with a traditional breakfast, directly connects the locals with the history of water usage in the surroundings of the Molino.

The use of fire also constitutes a central element, represented in the route of the Torico de fuego (fire bull). This tradition runs through various streets and neighbourhoods, such as Calle Irurzun or the San Juan neighbourhood, moving the festivities to different points of the urban layout. Likewise, the active involvement of young people is a fundamental pillar in the management and execution of the activities. Particularly noteworthy is the organisation of events such as the Fiesta de la cerveza (beer festival), led by the corresponding quinta —the 2008 quinta in this edition—, which guarantees generational handover and the continuity of festive customs through the self-management of the municipality's youth groups.

Programme and main events

The official programme for the designated dates concentrates a variety of events designed for different audiences, alternating sports offerings with musical leisure and bullfighting celebrations. The programming begins with the DJ Party in Plaza de los Fueros, while the cultural and sporting sphere offers proposals such as the Kuadriketas Contest and the semifinal of the Spring Professional Remonte Tournament, which is played in the municipal Frontón.

Section dedicated to bulls features running of the bulls with fighting cattle, which in this edition count with the participation of the livestock ranches of Juan José Laparte from Marcilla, Pedro Domínguez from Funes, and José Arriazu e hijos from Ablitas. Music and street entertainment also occupy a prominent place, with performances by the INGENIO orchestra in Plaza Principal, children's performances such as ‘CantaCuentos’ in the municipal Marquee, and the constant presence of the «El Garrafón» txaranga (brass band) in parades and morning reveilles. It is recommended to check the official programme published on this same page to verify the exact times of each event, as they may undergo modifications according to the organisation.

Traditional festival food

The gastronomic offer during these dates is structured around popular events that promote socialising in the street. These traditions allow visitors to taste simple proposals with a strong social aspect:

  • Chocolatada: Celebrated on 23 June in Plaza del campanar. It is a traditional event featuring musical entertainment by the «El Garrafón» txaranga, becoming a gathering point for locals during the afternoon.
  • Almuerzo popular en el Molino: Takes place at dawn on 24 June, immediately after the closing of the Tremoya sluice gate. This moment is an awaited custom that closes the festive cycle and takes place in the vicinity of the natural surroundings of the Molino.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To enjoy Las Fiestas de la Juventud in Peralta with greater comfort, it is essential to plan travel and stay in advance. On days with the highest turnout, it is preferable to opt for public transport or look for parking outside the urban centre, thus avoiding traffic problems in the vicinity of the events and the festive venue.

It is strongly recommended to book accommodation as far in advance as possible, either within the municipality itself or in nearby towns, which greatly facilitates attendance at evening events and mobility. It is advisable to always check the official programme before organising each day, since schedules, accesses and the location of activities may undergo changes according to the needs of the festive development or current regulations at any given time.
