Introduction and local significance
The Fiestas de la Juventud in Buñuel will be celebrated this year from 23 to 25 October 2026 in this town of the Comunidad Foral de Navarra. This patronal festival brings together locals and visitors around a wide calendar of recreational, musical, and bullfighting activities organised in different locations throughout the municipality. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance for the festival dates, and on the busiest days, public transport or parking outside the centre is preferable.
Historical origins and tradition
(Section without specific historical data in the dossier). The traditions of this event in Buñuel are based on community participation and the collaboration of local entities such as peñas, associations, the Gaiteros de Buñuel, and the Banda de Música. The festivities maintain elements of Navarrese festive culture through the integration of giant parades and traditional popular events in the streets.
Programme and main events
The official programme of the Fiestas de la Juventud in Buñuel kicks off on Friday 23 October at 18:00 with a popular hot chocolate event in Plaza San José de Calasanz, followed at 19:00 by the chupinazo from the balcony of the Escuelas Viejas. On Saturday 24 October, the long encierro and subsequent release of calves takes place from 09:00 to 10:00, featuring livestock from the Hermanos Gracia Blasco ranch in Fustiñana, along with a popular meal (rancho) in the marquee at 14:00 and a parade with the Banda de Música de Buñuel at 17:30. On Sunday 25 October, the day begins with morning dianas and the distribution of caldico at 08:00, followed by the giant parade at 11:00 with the giant troupes from Buñuel and Arguedas, the paella competition at 12:30, and the closing event with Pobre de mí at 19:30 from the Escuelas Viejas.
Traditional festival food
During the celebrations, the municipal marquee hosts notable gastronomic events such as the popular meal consisting of a rancho on Saturday and the paella competition scheduled for Sunday at 12:30, where only dishes prepared on-site are accepted. Additionally, the programme includes moments to share traditional products, such as the morning distribution of caldico and the popular breakfast organised by the marquee on Sunday at 10:00 with the collaboration of locals and peñas.
Visitor guide and where to stay
Before travelling to Buñuel, it is advisable to consult the official programme, as schedules and events may be subject to change. Staying in the town itself or in nearby locations makes it easier to attend the nighttime events that extend into the early hours in the marquee, such as musical performances and DJ sessions. On days with higher public attendance, it is recommended to opt for public transport or park vehicles in designated areas outside the urban centre to facilitate movement.
