Introduction and local significance

The Fiestas de Hogueras y barracas in San Vicente del Raspeig are officially celebrated from 10 to 20 July 2026 in this municipality belonging to the province of Alicante, within the territory of the Comunitat Valenciana. This prominent patronal festival stands out in the calendar due to the use of over 300 kilograms of gunpowder distributed throughout the programme of events. It also features the direct participation of the Belleas del Foc, members of the municipal corporation, and the various festival committees organised in hogueras and barracas. The Fiestas de Hogueras y barracas in San Vicente del Raspeig enliven the summer period of the town through ephemeral artistic monuments and intense pyrotechnic activity that attracts large crowds.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebration is approaching its 80th anniversary, establishing itself as one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the historical trajectory of the municipality. Among the most significant rites is the traditional Plantà al tombe of the Official Hogueras, an event that brings together the mayor, members of the corporation, the federative entity, and representatives of the festival committees. As a significant novelty for its external projection, the festival reaches an international dimension with the plantà and cremà of a monument scheduled in Portugal for August 2026. The devout and participatory aspect is particularly manifested in the Ofrenda a la Virgen del Carmen Coronada, where the committees follow the official route dressed in traditional attire.

Programme and main events

The official programme for the current edition is structured into specific days that host the following main events:

  • 10 July, 20:00: Inaugural speech by the foguerers artists Eliot García and Alejandro López.
  • 14 July: Plantà al tombe of the Official Hogueras and award ceremony, as well as the celebration of a nocturnal Mascletà in Avenida de la Almassera.
  • 17 July, 14:00: Mascletà fired by the pyrotechnics company Turis in Parque Juan XIII.
  • 18 July, 14:00: Mascletà by the pyrotechnics company Coheters Dragons in Parque Juan XIII.
  • 18 July, 21:00: Ofrenda to the Virgen del Carmen Coronada, proceeding from Avenida Ancha de Castelar to the church of San Vicente Ferrer.
  • 19 July, 14:00: Mascletà by the pyrotechnics company Palancia in Parque Juan XIII.
  • 20 July, 00:00: Act of the Cremà of the Official Hogueras located in Plaza de España.

Traditional festival food

The festival is accompanied by the culinary tradition of the municipality and its nearby geographical surroundings, where the flavours of local cuisine are part of the experience during these festive days. Although the official documentation does not detail a specific recipe book or concrete menus for the days, the traditional gastronomy of the area complements the course of the scheduled events. Attendees and participants have the opportunity to explore local culinary resources in the various spaces set up during the official celebrations.

Visitor guide and where to stay

To comfortably follow the programme and facilitate logistics for travel, it is advisable to book accommodation well in advance both in the municipality itself and in the surrounding towns. On days with the highest public attendance, it is preferable to opt for public transport or park vehicles outside the central area, due to usual traffic cuts and road restrictions. As a complementary cultural proposal, the municipal organisation schedules free tourist routes on 17, 18, and 19 July, with two daily sessions set at 11:00 and 19:00; these visits start from Plaza de España and require prior booking through the official Tourism Office website.
