Introduction and local significance

The Festes Majors Patronals en Benidorm are the most important celebration in this municipality in the province of Alicante, dedicated to its local patron saints. This year's edition is officially celebrated from 6 to 11 November 2026. This festival stands out for the high level of involvement of the residents, who are organised into groups and coordinate an extensive programme that combines acts of faith with popular events.

Historical origins and tradition

These patron saint festivities pay tribute to the Mare de Déu del Sofratge and San Jaime Apóstol, central figures of devotion in the town. The main rituals are structured around offerings and the gatherings of the 'peñas' (local social clubs), groups that wear traditional clothing and carry banners representative of each organisation. Respect for these religious figures sets the calendar for the most solemn events in the municipality during the month of November.

Programme and main events

The programme of events includes preliminary celebrations and the main days of the festival:

  • Saturday 24 October (21:00): Celebration of the Dia de les Penyes at the Auditorio Julio Iglesias in the Parque de l’Aigüera, where the traditional playback competitions of the groups are organised.
  • From 6 to 11 November 2026: Development of the official days of the patron saint festivities with parades, religious acts, and popular gatherings in the town centre streets.

Traditional festival food

During the Festes Majors Patronals en Benidorm, the local gastronomy becomes a major draw for attendees visiting the 'peñas' headquarters and the municipality's restaurants. During these November dates, recipes from the Marina Baixa region take centre stage, with special attention given to warm spoon dishes (hearty stews), 'guisos marineros' (seafood stews), and the different types of 'arroces' (rice dishes) from the Alicante coast. Traditional local sweets round off the meals during these days of community gathering.

Visitor guide and where to stay

If you plan to attend the Festes Majors Patronals en Benidorm, it is essential that you are aware of the safety and coexistence rules in force for this edition. The recreational firing of F1, F2, and F3 category fireworks is prohibited from 14:30 to 16:30 and from 02:00 to 10:00, with the exception of official displays. Likewise, the 'peñas' venues must turn off music at 04:00 and completely close their facilities at 06:00.

To attend the Dia de les Penyes on 24 October, please note that access to the Auditorio Julio Iglesias from 21:00 onwards is restricted exclusively to 'peñistas' (club members) wearing the identification wristband. For accommodation, it is advisable to book well in advance in establishments in the town centre or in the hotel areas near the Levante beach in order to be able to walk to the main events.
