Introduction and local significance

Las Ferias y Fiestas de Toledo, held in the municipality of Toledo, take place in honour of the Virgen del Sagrario. In this 2026 edition, events will run from 13 to 16 August. The schedule combines religious tradition with cultural events, major concerts and family activities spread across various locations in the capital, creating a gathering period for residents and visitors wishing to experience the city's festive offerings.

Historical origins and tradition

At the core of this festivity is the commemoration of the Virgen del Sagrario, the city's patron saint, whose main events take place on 15 August. Local tradition preserves historical customs that define the identity of these dates, such as the practice of drinking water from a traditional clay pitcher (agua del botijo) on the main day. Likewise, the official opening, which moves to the city centre, stands out for the traditional parade of giant figures (gigantes, gigantones y cabezudos). This procession, accompanied by brass bands and percussion groups (charangas y batucadas), is one of the elements that defines the festive and family character of the fair.

Programme and main events

Activities are mainly structured between the historic quarter and the Recinto Ferial de La Peraleda, which hosts both attractions and musical events. The programme includes milestones such as the opening concert, which this year features a performance by Loquillo on the 13th, and the Medieval Market set up in Recaredo throughout the fiestas. A relevant aspect is the inclusive programme on Sunday 16 August, called 'Feria sin Ruido' (Noise-Free Fair), which reduces the sound impact of the attractions to facilitate access for people with auditory hypersensitivity or autism spectrum disorders.

Traditional festival food

Gastronomy during these days is linked to refreshing consumption traditions adapted to the mid-August climate. Particularly noteworthy is the tasting of limonada (traditional sweet lemon drink), a popular event integrated into the festive agenda on the 14th. Likewise, drinking water from the clay pitcher is the most distinctive culinary and refreshing tradition of 15 August, maintaining a historical custom tied to the patron saint's festivity.

Visitor guide and where to stay

For travel, it is recommended to prioritise public transport or park outside the city centre during days with the highest public turnout. Activities are centralised in enclaves such as Plaza del Ayuntamiento and La Peraleda, so it is advisable to plan movements in advance. Due to high demand during these dates, it is advisable to book accommodation well in advance, either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns, which makes attending evening events easier. In the event of any last-minute changes to scheduled events, the City Council's official programme should be consulted.
