Introduction and local significance

La Feria Real de Herrera takes place this year from 5 to 9 August 2026 in the Sevillian municipality of Herrera, located in the autonomous community of Andalusia. This festivity is one of the highlights of the town's summer calendar, bringing together locals and visitors for a programme that combines popular celebrations, concerts and sporting events. The municipal organization coordinates each edition to provide welcoming spaces at the fairgrounds. Attendees can plan their visit keeping in mind the official dates confirmed for this period in August.

Historical origins and tradition

Antecedents of the celebration are reflected in local archives, which record that the first documented fair dates back to 1843. Despite this 19th-century origin, the oldest surviving graphic testimony of the festivity corresponds to the promotional poster published in 1914. Around the history of La Feria Real de Herrera, a series of deeply rooted traditions have been consolidated that define the identity of the festivities. Among them stands out the Carrera de Cintas a Caballo (horseback ribbon race), a traditional exercise of equestrian skill that features separate categories for children and adult participants. Likewise, the traditional programme includes the celebration of the thirty-seventh edition of the Noche Flamenca "Pedro el de la Timotea" and the twenty-eighth Exhibición Ecuestre de Doma Vaquera, Clásica y Alta Escuela (equestrian exhibition of countryside, classical and high school dressage), coordinated by the "Amigos del Caballo" association, as well as the parades and morning reveilles by the Banda Musical Herrereña.

Programme and main events

The festive calendar is divided between preliminary events organized in July and the main events of the first week of August. On 27 July, the programme includes the concert by Demarco Flamenco at 22:00, followed by the performance by 'La Cajonera' at 23:00. During the main days, the fairgrounds host the Carrera de Cintas a Caballo in front of the fairgrounds and the second match of the L Trofeo "Villa de Herrera" between UD Marinaleda and CD Campillos. At night, the Caseta Municipal "Rafael Gálvez Guijarro" concentrates performances by Sensación Orquesta, the Raya Real group and music by DJ Amador (Churry). The rest of the official events, such as the tribute to Antonio Molina by Rafael Garcel and the concert by the Asociación Cultural Amigos de la Música de Herrera, can be consulted in detail in the official list above.

Traditional festival food

The official documentation of the festivity does not include a list of exclusive dishes or specific recipes exclusively linked to the municipality's fair. However, the traditional cuisine of this area in the province of Seville is based on classic recipes of Andalusian gastronomy from the Genil valley. Local garden produce, extra virgin olive oil and meats prepared using traditional methods form the basis of local cooking. During the days of celebration, visitors can sample tapas and homemade dishes in local establishments and around the fairgrounds.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The main activity of the fair takes place at the Caseta Municipal "Rafael Gálvez Guijarro", the central point for performances and gatherings. As a security measure and support for attendees, a Punto Violeta (Purple Point) is set up next to the Caseta de la Juventud to offer information, raise awareness and guarantee a safe environment free of sexist assaults. For your stay, it is advisable to book accommodation in advance both in the municipality of Herrera itself and in nearby towns, which makes it easy to follow the evening programme without setbacks. Regarding mobility, it is recommended to use public transport or park vehicles outside the most central areas during the days with the highest turnout. It is advisable to check official channels before starting your trip to confirm any last-minute changes to schedules or programmed events.
