Introduction and local significance

The Feria del Ganado, el Vino y la Tapa in Albuñol takes place from 23 October to 2 November 2026. This municipality in the La Alpujarra region has a population of 7,388 and its history dates back to the Neolithic period. The event attracts visitors from the provinces of Granada, Almería, Murcia, Jaén, and Málaga.

Historical origins and tradition

The Feria de Albuñol was established from royal privileges linked to the agricultural boom of the 19th century, thanks to wine, raisins, and other products from the Sierra de la Contraviesa. The traditional livestock fair, held on 1 November, has become the most important in the region. Traders, merchants, and fairgoers typically attend wearing hats or caps, black blouses, white shirts, corduroy trousers, and carrying long sticks with a point. Deals are traditionally sealed with a handshake after haggling.

Programme and main events

The official programme for this edition includes a youth party with various groups, an afternoon of monologues, a performance by Paco Candela, the opening of the Feria del Vino y la Tapa on 31 October, and a musical afternoon with the Orquesta Azahara. Additionally, paintball tournaments, clay pigeon shooting, a Halloween party, a spooky bingo, and children's activities are organised. For complete details on schedules and locations, the official festival programme can be reviewed.

Traditional festival food

During the deals at the fair stalls, it is customary to offer glasses of local wine accompanied by tapas of fish from the coastal district of La Rábita. This municipality in the Granada Alpujarra is also known for its wines, traditional cuisine, and local sweets.

Visitor guide and where to stay

During the busiest days, it is advisable to use public transport or park outside the urban centre. It is wise to book accommodation in advance for the festival dates, either in the municipality itself or in nearby towns, which makes it easier to attend the evening events. Before travelling, it is useful to check the official programme for any possible schedule changes.
