Introduction and local significance
The Feria del Caballo en Lepe celebrates its edition from 15 to 18 October 2026 in this municipality of the province of Huelva. The event is dedicated to the equestrian sector and horse-related activities in the region.
The gathering brings together local and provincial riders around exhibitions and competitions in the fairgrounds of the Coronación park. Its development combines equestrian disciplines with flamenco music, sevillanas, and socialising in the booths set up in the fairgrounds.
Historical origins and tradition
The origin of this festival dates back to October 2026, when its first edition is celebrated. The initiative comes from the Lepe Town Hall with the aim of responding to existing demand and recognising the horse world in the area. The promotional poster for this inaugural event was created by the artist Alberto Muriel.
Among the established traditions is the requirement that all booths maintain a common aesthetic linked to the traditional character of the celebration. Additionally, the route of the sevillanas stands out, an open procession for local enthusiasts that travels through the modules alongside the municipal schools of Dance, Guitar, and Flamenco Singing. In the equestrian realm, the central custom is the parade of horses and carriages through the streets of the urban area.
Programme and main events
The central events of the Feria del Caballo en Lepe focus on the exhibitions in the arena, the urban route, and the institutional opening at the entrance. The inauguration features a folkloric route through the booths, as well as two exhibitions in the arena with students from local schools and riders from the province of Huelva. Another key highlight is the parade and competition of riders, amazons, and carriages that starts from Calle Rábida and crosses streets such as César Barrios, Real, Alonso Barba, and Fuentenueva.
For detailed schedules and the distribution of each event, please refer to the official programme available in the upper section.
Traditional festival food
Culinary activities are concentrated in the fairgrounds through private booths and the municipal booth. In these spaces, traditional drinks and foods are served during the opening hours of the fair.
As there are no specific dishes detailed for this equestrian celebration, the food offerings in the booths and local establishments focus on traditional cuisine from the area to cater to participants and visitors.
Visitor guide and where to stay
The event takes place in the fairgrounds of the Coronación park. This venue has ten private booths—managed by brotherhoods, associations, and individuals—and a double municipal booth that is open to the public. Additionally, municipal regulations provide for veterinary controls to supervise animal welfare, along with designated areas for resting and watering the horses.
For organising your trip and accommodation during the fair days, it is advisable to follow these recommendations:
- It is advisable to book accommodation in advance for the festival dates.
- Staying in the municipality itself or nearby towns makes it easier to attend the evening events.
- On the busiest days, public transport or parking outside the centre is preferable.
- Before travelling, check the official programme: schedules and events may change.
