Introduction and local significance

The Feria de Octubre en Trigueros is one of the annual highlights in this municipality of the province of Huelva. The current edition is officially celebrated from 16 to 18 October 2026, featuring commercial, livestock, cultural, and agricultural activities.

The event stands out for bringing together regional agri-food activities and popular leisure in one space. Through the Gastroferia, the Feria de Muestras, and the Feria de Vehículos, the town showcases its traditional productive fabric within the framework of its autumn celebrations.

Historical origins and tradition

The Feria de Octubre en Trigueros has a documented history dating back to 1827. In that year, a Royal Order granted the town the privilege of holding an annual fair on the second Sunday of October and the two following days, initially administered by the Royal Treasury. During the century following its grant, it established itself in the province of Huelva as a central hub for transactions involving pig, cattle, and horse livestock.

Among its deep-rooted customs is the awarding of the Espiga de Oro during the Agricultural Day, an accolade with which Trigueros farmers recognise the work of a fellow member of the sector. Additionally, the local tradition includes the Café de Mayores in the Caseta Municipal to honour the older residents. The fairground also features stalls selling seasonal products, crafts, and bingo games. Furthermore, in 2026, the municipality reinstated the bullfighting festival with picadors after ten years without organising it.

Programme and main events

The festivities unfold over three consecutive days, featuring commercial, musical, and bullfighting events. The upper section details the complete programme of events along with their corresponding times and dates.

Among the most representative moments is the simultaneous opening of the Feria de Muestras, the Feria de Vehículos, and the Gastroferia, which marks the start of the fairground activities. The professional and tribute aspect is highlighted by the XXIX Jornada Agrícola de Trigueros at the Teatro Municipal, where the Espiga de Oro is awarded. The entertainment offerings include performances by Los Alpresa, Daniel The Best, and an urban dance exhibition by the municipal workshop led by Saray Godoy. The programme also features a parade by the Banda de Música del Maestro Tejera and the bullfighting festival with picadors dedicated to the matador David de Miranda.

Traditional festival food

The culinary focus during this time is concentrated in the stalls and booths set up at the fairground, with special attention to local produce:

  • Aceites: a basic product of the region, available for tasting and direct sale at the Gastroferia.
  • Embutidos: cured meats and traditional cuts from the province of Huelva, showcased and sampled at the gastronomic exhibition.
  • Dulces artesanos: pastries made by local bakers and patisseries at the fairground.
  • Castañas: roasted and sold at street stalls during the autumn afternoons.
  • Turrones: a classic fair sweet available at the traditional stalls at the fairground.

Visitor guide and where to stay

The festive events and attractions are located in the Recinto Ferial de Trigueros. For families with children, the mechanical attractions offer a reduced rate of €2.50 on the Thursday before the official opening, compared to the €3.50 charged during the official days. Additionally, there are designated sound-free time slots for individuals with auditory sensitivity or autism spectrum conditions: from 18:00 to 19:00 on Friday and Saturday, and from 17:00 to 19:00 on Sunday.

To plan your visit, it is recommended to:

  • Book accommodation in advance due to the festive dates.
  • Look for overnight options both in the town centre and in nearby localities if planning to attend the evening performances.
  • Use public transport or park in areas outside the centre during peak times.
  • Check the official programme before travelling, as events and timings may be subject to last-minute changes.
