Introduction and local significance
The Feria de Noviembre en Riaño is celebrated this year on 7 November 2026 in the León town of Riaño. Following its absence last year due to the ban imposed by the Junta de Castilla y León because of Lumpy Skin Disease, the event reclaims its prominent place in the Montaña Oriental Leonesa. This gathering brings together hundreds of visitors from the province of León, Asturias and Cantabria for one of the most representative livestock fairs in the Cordillera Cantábrica.
Historical origins and tradition
Thy event features a deeply rooted traditional market with decades of history in the municipality. Among the most prominent ethnographic elements are the traditional pendones (large ceremonial banners), which take part in the parade alongside musical groups. The celebration stands out for its strong roots in the comarca of Montaña de Riaño y Mampodre, bringing back the physical presence of animals following the previous health regulations.
Programme and main events
As the official programme includes various specific musical events such as the parade by the Banda de Música de Cistierna and performances by Los Taberneros and Sonido Corcos, please refer to the detailed schedule in the top info box to avoid duplicating information. The main activities of the day include the opening of the market at 09:00, the start of the 18th edition of the Livestock Competition at 10:00, and the subsequent awards ceremony for participating breeders with equine, ovine, bovine, caprine and Mastiff animals.
Traditional festival food
Attendees at the Feria de Noviembre en Riaño can enjoy the traditional culinary offerings of the León mountain area in local establishments and market stalls. Although the context does not detail specific dishes exclusive to this day, the local cuisine is based on hearty mountain produce, local meats and traditional recipes suited to the autumn months in the Cordillera Cantábrica.
