Historical origins and tradition
The festivities boast a solid tradition rooted in the Extremaduran municipality that revolves around several distinctive elements. Among its customs stand out the participation of the Carnival queens, the celebration of murgas and chirigotas (street choir and satirical troupe) competitions, the youth parade, the grand parade of floats and troupes, and the carnival parade. Likewise, the participatory activity called "Cómete el Carnavalmoral" stands out, in which groups attend in costume with a common and exclusively carnival theme.
Programme and main events
Given that the official programme is constantly updated, it is recommended to check the schedules and planned events before travelling to the municipality. Among the most prominent moments are the murgas and chirigotas competition, the grand parade of floats and troupes, the youth parade, the carnival parade and the participatory activity "Cómete el Carnavalmoral", which takes place in the Plaza del Jardincillo on 14 February 2026 between 13:00 and 15:00.
Traditional festival food
During the celebration of the Carnaval de Navalmoral, local gastronomy accompanies the recreational events with characteristic products of the land. In the participatory activity "Cómete el Carnavalmoral", the organisation treats the participating groups to a batch of Iberian pork products and bread to regain strength between the different parades and street processions.
Visitor guide and where to stay
To guarantee the normal development of the events, the Carnival has a special security and emergency deployment formed by more than 400 personnel from the Guardia Civil, Local Police, Civil Protection, Red Cross and SEPEI, which establish preventive alcohol and drug controls and a permanent presence of health services. It is advisable to book accommodation in advance in the municipality itself or in nearby towns to facilitate following the nocturnal events. On the days of highest influx, it is preferable to use public transport or park the vehicle outside the town centre.
