Introduction and local significance

The Carnaval de Campo Arañuelo en Navalmoral de la Mata is one of the most prominent festive events in the province of Cáceres, in Extremadura. It holds the official recognition of Festival of Regional Tourist Interest and attracts numerous visitors every year. For this edition, activities are officially scheduled for 14 February 2026. This festivity transforms the town in Cáceres thanks to the involvement of its local peñas (peñas) and groups.

Historical origins and tradition

The celebration stands out for the participation of groups made up of a minimum of 10 people. All members must be in costume with a common theme, using exclusively carnival attire for this purpose. This rule encourages collective originality and teamwork within the comparsas (troupes) that parade through the town's streets during the festive days.

Programme and main events

Since the official programme is continually updated, it is advisable to check the final schedules before travelling to the town. Highlights include the gastronomic and social activity organised in the urban centre. Check the town council's official channels to find out the exact schedule of each day and the location of the main stages.

Traditional festival food

During the celebration, tastings linked to the popular events organised for the peñas stand out. Specifically, in the activity known as Cómete el Carnavalmoral, a pack consisting of Iberian pork products and bread is handed out to duly registered participating groups. These traditional products serve to regain strength between parades and festive gatherings.

Visitor guide and where to stay

Participation in the activities requires taking into account several logistical deadlines, such as the closing of registrations set for Monday 9 February 2026 at 14:00, or until the limit of 150 groups is reached. Registered groups must go on Saturday 14 February, between 13:00 and 15:00, to the Plaza del Jardincillo to identify themselves before the Festival Commission and go through the photocall. For accommodation, it is best to book in advance in the town itself or in nearby localities, which makes it easier to follow the events without worries. On days with the highest turnout, it is preferable to opt for public transport or leave vehicles outside the town centre.
